CAMEROON IN THE INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL SYSTEM

Cameroon is member of the Francophonie, the commonwealth, the Organization of the Islamic conference (OIC), the African Union (AU), the UN. It is also member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the ACP Convention, the European Union, The Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC), the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA), the Inter African Conference of Insurance Markets (CIMA), the Social Conference (CIPRE), the Sub-Saharan Africa Economic and Statistics Observatory (AFRISTAT), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

Within the framework of environmental sanitation and the revitalization of economic activities, Cameroon embarked on an economic liberalization policy which is characterized by:

  • The elimination of tariff barriers and gross import restrictions;
  • The State divestiture from the production sector through the privatization of government companies and parastatals;
  • Fiscal consolidation.

In order to end this process and encourage investments, an Investment Charter which established a new incentive institutional framework was enacted on 4 April 2002 and sector-based codes are being drawn up.

CAMEROON

The Republic of Cameroon is a country of the central African sub region, located at the bottom of the Gulf of Guinea. It is, situated between the 2nd and 13th degree latitude north and the 9th and 16th degrees east longitude. Cameroon shares common borders with the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the west, the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the Republic of Gabon, the Republic of Congo in the south, the Central African Republic in the East and the Republic of Chad in the North.
