PRESENTATION OF CAMEROON

The Republic of Cameroon is a country of the central African subregion, located at the bottom of the Gulf of Guinea. It is, situated between the 2nd and 13th degree latitude north and the 9th and 16th degrees east longitude. Cameroon shares common borders with the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the west, the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the Republic of Gabon, the Republic of Congo in the south, the Central African Republic in the East and the Republic of Chad in the North.
Surface area: 475,442km2

Climate: The climate varies from the north to the south, from the Sahel zone (4 to 8 months of dry season per annum) right to the Equatorial zone (7 to 8 months of rain per annum). The annual height of the rains varies from 4,000mm around Douala-Buea to less than 600mm in the Lake Chad area.

Cameroon is an ethnic, linguistic and socio-cultural mosaic including approximately 250 ethnic groups with equally the same number of languages, many habits various monotheist and animist religious.
Road Networks: it is 1,000km long and connects the coastal area to the northern part of the country.

Administrative organization: Cameroon is divided into 10 provinces, 58 divisions, 268 subdivisions and 53 districts.
Political Organization: Constitutionally, the Republic of Cameroon is a democratic state endowed with a liberal and Pluralist political system.

  • The President of the Republic is elected by direct universal suffrage for 7 years renewable.
  • The legislative power is exercised by the Parliament which comprises two 2 chambers: The National Assembly and the Senate.
  • The Judicial power is exercised by the Supreme Court, Courts of Appeal and Courts.

Natural resources: Cameroon is essentially an agricultural country. It has huge natural potentialities and resources representing great investment opportunities.

  • Agriculture: millet, sorghum, rice, corn, cotton, coffee, cocoa, sugar cane, tea, pepper, banana, rubber, palm oil, pineapple, bean, fruits and vegetables, flowers, tropical market gardening of moderate zones such as tomato, potato, many European vegetables and various types of crops.
  • Fish: fish shoal and plenty of fresh water shellfish, brackish.
  • Energy: huge water resources and hydroelectric potential.

Cameroon currently has three (3) hydroelectric dams: Edea, Song-Loulou and Lagdo and Lompangar where studies are currently in progress.
